A Great Career Is In The Food and Agriculture Industries!

The food, beverage, and agriculture industries are among the most rewarding and challenging careers.  The opportunities in agriculture, local issues, and world challenges that need to be solved are immense, which translates to high demand for employees and career stability.

Rewarding because:

  • The people are genuine.  I challenge you to find an industry where people are as real and honest as those in agribusiness.

  • Agtech is booming.

  • You can work outside.

  • Demand for professionals is very high.

  • We need to eat - these industries will always exist!

  • Food is exciting -- we are trying new flavors, cuisines, beverages, than ever before.  We can buy ready-to-eat salads, choose fresh organic foods, or pick out dragonfruit from the produce isles.

  • The work is personally rewarding.  You can literally see and taste the fruits of your labors.

You can solve enormous challenges:

  • World population is increasing - how do we increase healthy food production?

  • Supply chain - how can we continue to improve supply chain to get fresh, healthy food to everyone across all areas of the population?

  • Water - how do we continue to grow healthy, safe food with a dwindling water supplly?

  • Sustainability - how do we create a more sustainable, pesticide and preservative free food supply?

  • Food Safety - how do we ensure the entire food supply chain is safe for consumption?

The food and ag sectors offer Misconceptions about food and agribusiness.  But here's the truth:

The hours are long…

...So are the hours for the highest level professions.  Doctors, lawyers work insane hours. Coders, developers, programmers can work incredible hours.  Have a pitch at an agency due? Teams have pulled all-nighters. Ag hours are long, but so are the other top industries.

It’s just a bunch of farmers who sit in tractors, there’s no tech…

...Think self driving cars are neat?  Tractors have been largely self-driven through GPS for years.  Think drones are cool? Agtech companies are using drones to monitor and measure orchards with scifi levels of accuracy.

The technology in seed breeding is advancing.  Since our water supply is dwindling, companies are developing safe seeds to grow with less water, especially for underdeveloped countries.

Organic fertilizers and crop protectants are being developed daily for sustainable, organic production.

Packing sheds are using optical sensors that can actually see inside the fruit to determine quality.

Plus, you don’t have to live in expensive, congested metros.  You can live in towns and areas where there is a lot less traffic, housing prices and rent are more affordable, you can park your car without sitting in a parking lot line for minutes on end -- and pay less than $20 to do so!
